PARP (Pick A Reading Partner)
Welcome to PARP (Pick A Reading Partner)!
The Minnesauke PTA is proud to be participating in Pick A Reading Partner for our seventh year. Learning to read is the single most important activity in a child’s education. Studies show that children who read at home are better prepared to succeed in formal education.
PARP is a program that asks parents or caregivers to read with their children for at least fifteen minutes daily, stressing the fact that reading can be fun as well as informative. The choice of reading materials can vary from books to anything with printed words. The daily activity of reading together strengthens reading and communication skills in the child and also strengthens the parent/child relationship. Note: The term "parents" may be interpreted broadly to include all adults who play an important role in a child’s life.
How do I participate?
Please fill in and add your minutes on the monthly calendar. At the end of each month, an announcement will be made congratulating the student in each grade who accumulated the most minutes read as well as each grade’s total minutes read. Additionally, every student who participates will receive a certificate to a local establishment each month (i.e., Panera, Applebees, etc.).
At the end of the school year, we will tally all of the minutes read and celebrate with a fun (to-be-determined) event! The top two students in each grade with the most minutes logged will receive an awards certificate and a special prize. We will also announce how many minutes Minnesauke students read for the 2020 - 2021 school year.
We look forward to celebrating reading with you this year!
